MORE ABOUT HOW WE CAN WORK TOGETHER
Frequently Asked Questions

Rather than working through trauma and stress primarily by talking about it, Somatic Experiencing® (SE) helps the nervous system process and release stored survival responses. These are the physiological patterns that keep us stuck in fight, flight, or freeze long after the danger has passed. SE focuses on the body-mind connection, emotional regulation, and building resilience and capacity.
You don't have to relive your story in detail. Many people are afraid to begin trauma therapy because they worry that talking about what happened will retraumatize them. You never have to talk about anything you don't want to. We can always work with what's showing up in the body through sensation, emotion, or movement. We move gently, at a pace that feels manageable for you.

I'm based in Illinois. I'm also licensed to provide telehealth in Idaho and Florida, so I can work with clients in any of those three states. You just need to be located in one of them at the time of your session.

Yes, I'm in network with BCBS PPO and Aetna PPO. Coverage varies from plan to plan, so I recommend contacting your insurance company before our first session to confirm your mental health benefits, including your copay or deductible and any limits on the number of sessions.
If you have a different plan, I'm out-of-network, and you're welcome to check what out-of-network benefits your plan offers. My session fees are listed under the fees section.

Before your session, you'll receive a link to my secure online platform. Just click it at your appointment time and we'll meet face to face on video. It can feel a little different than being in the same room, but many people find it more convenient. It lets you meet at times, or from places, that might not work for an in-person visit. We can still see each other and connect.

Not currently. My practice is fully online for now, so I can work with clients across Illinois, Idaho, and Florida.

In our first session, I'll ask about your history and what's bringing you in. I'll answer any questions you have, and we'll begin with a little bit of somatic work right away. I'll explain everything as we go, and you're always welcome to give me feedback about your experience.

Ideally, we'll meet weekly at first so we can gain some traction.
Some people move to every other week once things start to smooth out. They still want regular support but need to let some life happen between sessions. You're always welcome to schedule an extra session if the need arises. Monthly sessions can be a good fit after we've worked together for some time and you'd like support maintaining the progress you've made.
People are usually ready to step away from therapy when they feel they can handle the natural ebbs and flows of life with the skills and awareness they have built during our time together. You're always welcome to return if you need to. It's not unusual for clients to feel they've gotten what they need for a time, then come back briefly when a new challenge arises or an old one circles back.

This is different for everyone, since each person's needs and experiences vary. Some people stay for several months, while others continue for years. Clients often decrease the frequency of sessions as things improve, and many choose to continue long term. It's always up to you.
